Settlement for tourist injured during visit to LondonAn award of compensation has been received by a Canadian tourist who was injured during his stay in England.
Fred Johnson*, from Toronto in Canada, was visiting London and staying with friends during a trip around Europe. He suffered a nasty wound to his head when he was struck by a heavy metal weight which was part of a gate closing mechanism at the private complex where he was staying. He was taken to hospital for treatment which included stapling of the wound together. He suffered with headaches for a few weeks as well as a small area of hair loss where, after the wound healed, scar tissue in the scalp would not allow the hair to re-grow.
After returning to Canada, Fred contacted Levenes to find out if he could make a claim. His claim was dealt with Personal Injury Partner, Tim Beasley.
Fred takes up the story: 'I suffered a personal injury while on holiday in London. Making a claim from overseas seemed particularly daunting but Mr. Beasley removed any concerns that I had. I was always kept up to date via telephone and email and we reached a successful outcome which exceeded my expectations.'
Tim adds ' The key to the case was establishing who was responsible for the gate. It turned out that local residents had been complaining for months and that there had been problems since the gate was installed. The claim was made against the installers of the equipment whose insurers agreed to deal with the claim.'
This is not the first time that Levenes have dealt with claims where the client is living overseas. In fact, the record so far for long distance claims is held by a former client who started his claim and then emigrated to Australia.
Fortunately, thanks to the internet and email making a claim in the UK for an accident suffered during a visit to the country is something that is becoming more common.
