Piotr was a student at university. He decided to take a break from his studies and like many from Eastern Europe decided to earn some money in England when he heard from friends that there was plenty of work available. He travelled to England and rented a room with a group of friends. He signed with an agency and had a series of jobs.
He started one job working on a farm. During the first week he was asked to clear away some rubble in the corner of the yard. Unfortunately, the owner was working nearby with a tractor and accidentally collided with a pile of girders stacked in the yard. The girders fell and landed on Piotr causing serious injuries. His hand was crushed and he lost 3 fingers and he also suffered a fractured arm, a back injury and psychological problems. After treatment in England, he returned home for further treatment.
Piotr instructed Levenes and signed a Conditional Fee Agreement. The insurance company for the employer tried to blame Piotr at first, but it was clear to us from the evidence we obtained that the employer was negligent. Settlement was agreed. Piotr received £180,000 to compensate him for the loss of his fingers and his other injuries as well as loss of earnings and medical expenses. He received his compensation in full we were able to claim his legal costs from the employers insurance company.
