Levenes multilingual solicitors take on European cycling challenges
Levenes Solicitors Cycling Team is gearing up for cycling challenges raising money for the Spinal Injuries Association in 2017.
Remus Robu and Isidoro Bonilla are delighted to be taking part in the Spinal Injury Association's Cycle Transylvania challenge this May. Neither of them are keen cyclists nor have they taken part in any challenge like this before but they want to believe that they were inspired in the last stage of La Vuelta de Espana last September in Madrid, which they watched live. They have confessed that their training is behind schedule and that they keep receiving alerts and reminders from their cycling apps to go and train. In any event they are confident that their legs and lungs will cope with the Romanian mountains.
Remus is originally from Romania and is proud to be part of such an amazing event in his home country and for a noble cause that has close links to his everyday work. Isidoro, who is Spanish, is also looking forward to cycling through the spectacular scenery of the Transylvania Mountains.
They both represent spinal cord injured clients from their respective original nations. As well as raising money for the Spinal Injuries Association, they also hope to raise awareness of what can be done to help people who are adjusting to a life after suffering a spinal cord injury.
Tim Beasley, known in our office as Sir Tim Wiggins, will also raise money for the Spinal Injuries Association this summer. Tim, who speaks French, will be putting his language skills to the test when he cycles the length of France in June from Calais to the Mediterranean coast. This is Tim's 4th major charity ride. He has previously ridden London to Paris, London to Amsterdam and Brussels and Lands End to John O'Groats and has already raised £1,250 for the Spinal Injuries Association. Remus and Isidoro will be riding as part of an organised trip, but Tim's effort will be completely solo and unsupported save for wine and cheese which he thinks will see him through.
Tim is a Partner and the Head of Catastrophic Injury Claims. Remus and Isidoro are part of Levenes team of 15 multilingual lawyers who act for clients with serious injuries including spinal cord injuries. Some of their lawyers are dual qualified. Between them, members of the team speak 15 languages - (in alphabetical order) Bengali, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hungarian, Mandarin, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. Many of their clients chose to instruct Levenes because they can talk to their lawyer directly without the use of an interpreter. However, it is not just about language. Levenes solicitors also understand the cultural and social difficulties injured clients have to face and try to help in any way they possibly can, for example, providing treatment in the client's native language wherever possible.
