Concern over 'vulnerable' ridersNottinghamshire Police have increased road patrols amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of motorbike riders.
Motorists who compromise the safety of riders will be specifically targeted by officers, and condition checks will be carried out on motorbikes. Safer riding will also be promoted by officers in the campaign.
The measures come after the death of four motorcyclists in seven days on the county's road, taking the total this year to nine riders and one passenger. Last year, 12 people died in motorbike accidents, and in 2007, 18 people died.
Chief Inspector Andy Charlton said the recent deaths were a reminder that motorcyclists are especially vulnerable and at greater risk of injury if involved in a collision.
He said: "These latest deaths coming so quickly together illustrates how vulnerable bike riders can be.
"A reduction in fatalities in 2008 represented good news, but we are very concerned that the trend won't be continued into 2009."
