Crane Probe focuses on foundationsThe lower structure and foundations of a crane which collapsed onto a Liverpool apartment block in early July are the focus of safety investigations.
The collapsed Wolff 500 crane has been impounded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and will be subject to chemical, metallurgical and structural tests over the coming months, according to Bower & Kirkland (B&K), the main contractor on the site.
The HSE has asked for the crane's foundations to be left undisturbed as it plans to excavate and investigate the structure once details of the process have been finalised. Work has restarted on the Kings Mill Docks site.
B&K said that a Wolff 100 crane, which is smaller than the collapsed Wolff 500, was previously mounted on the suspect foundations. The Wolff 100 crane had been erected between January and April 2009 using a tower reducing section.

Tim Beasley, Personal Injury Partner comments on this news story.
"We are aware of a number of accidents involving the collapse of cranes on building sites. We act for the widow of a worker who was tragically killed in a similar accident. We are interested in hearing from anyone with might have had a similar experience of working with a crane where a crane collapsed.
