Policeman and woman hurt in crash

A police officer from Nottinghamshire is being treated in hospital after the marked car he was driving was involved in a crash with another motorist.

A woman was also taken to hospital after the accident, which happened on Monday on Clipstone Road West in Forest Town, near Mansfield. She was later released after treatment.

Neither person's injuries were thought to be serious, a Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said.

An investigation is now under way into the circumstances of the crash.

The spokesman said: "The officer was responding to an immediate incident when his marked car, which was using its siren and blue lights, was in collision with another car.

"He was freed by firefighters at the scene before being taken to King's Mill Hospital. The woman driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was also taken to King's Mill Hospital and was released after treatment."

The spokesman said the road remained closed for several hours after the crash.
