One killed in ambulance road crashOne person has died and another is seriously injured after an ambulance taking a baby to a specialist care unit was in collision with a car.
Hampshire police say the accident, which happened near the racecourse on the Isle of Wight, was "not a minor bump" and have launched an investigation.
The baby, who was in an incubator at the time, and other occupants of the ambulance were not seriously injured, but one of the passengers in the car was pronounced dead at the scene and another suffered "very serious injuries".
Officials say the vehicle was transferring the baby from St Mary's Hospital on the island to a specialist care unit on the mainland at the time of the crash.
South Central Ambulance Service said it was "fully co-operating" with the police inquiry and also intended to carry out its own investigation.
The police, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the air ambulance all attended the scene of the accident.
