Woman killed in ambulance collision

A 39-year-old woman has died in hospital after she was hit by an ambulance responding to a 999 call in a Lincolnshire village.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service vehicle overturned and collided with the woman - a local resident - as she walked in Stowe Road, Langtoft, Peterborough, just before 7.30am.

The ambulance, which had its sirens and accompanying blue lights blaring, was responding to a traffic collision along the same road.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "The emergency vehicle had two ambulance crew on board. The pedestrian and both crew members were transported to Peterborough Hospital for treatment. Tragically, the pedestrian has since passed away and we offer family and friends our deepest sympathies."

"The crew have suffered shock and are being treated for minor injuries. Another ambulance was sent to respond to the original road traffic collision where an entrapped driver was treated at the scene."

"We are working with the police to assist them with their investigation and until that is complete we are unable to comment further."

Lincolnshire Police said they were called to the scene at 7.18am. A spokesman said the woman would be named once formal identification had taken place.
