Bridge worker dies in 150ft fall

A workman has died after plunging 150ft from a rail bridge in Scotland, it has been confirmed.

The contractor fell from a ladder onto scaffolding while working on the Forth Rail Bridge in east central Scotland, British Transport Police said.

The unnamed man had been working on the north side of the bridge, which connects South and North Queensferry, on Wednesday night. Emergency services, including paramedics and coastguards, were called to the scene after police received a 999 call.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "At 20.44 on Wednesday 27, British Transport Police received a report of a man having fallen from a ladder on the north side of the Forth Rail Bridge. The man, who was a contractor, died at the scene. Police and paramedics are at the scene."

A Forth coastguard spokesman said: "There was an accident on the bridge and a worker has fallen."
