New Law on Tower Cranes

After a number of very serious accidents involving the collapse of tower cranes on building sites, a new law is about to be brought in.

The new regulations, in force from April 6, 2010, provide for a register of tower cranes and also create a 'duty to notify' on the employer in relation to information they should give to the Health and Safety Executive, including notification within 14 days of an examination of the crane.

It is to be hoped that the number of incidents of this type will be reduced.

Levenes are currently acting for the widow of a worker who was killed when a crane collapsed on a building site in Liverpool in January 2007.

We would like to hear from you if you have been involved in an accident involving the collapase of a crane.
