Man arrested after fatal van crashAn elderly pedestrian has been killed in East Sussex following a crash with a van.
A 51-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the crash which happened in De Cham Road, Hastings at 3.45pm on Thursday.
Sussex Police said the Ford Transit van collided with a 79-year-old women.
The local women suffered head injuries and was taken to the Conquest Hospital. Her death was confirmed on arrival there, but she has not been formally identified.
The van driver was arrested and later released on bail without charge to return to Hastings police station on June 4.
He is a local man who was driving alone.
A police spokesman said their inquiries continue.
Witnesses to the crash are asked to call road policing officers based in Polegate on 0845 6070 999, quoting Operation Wilcote.
