Council probes club sign accidentPlymouth City Council has launched an investigation after a woman was hit by a falling 30ft-long nightclub sign.
The unidentified victim was trapped beneath the object until it was removed by members of the public, police said.
She was later treated for a deep cut to the side of her head that needed a number of stitches at Derriford hospital. The woman was released later the same day.
An environmental health officer from the council attended the scene of the accident, which occurred at around 11.15 am on Saturday, and launched an investigation.
It is not yet known why the sign, for the Reflex Club on Western Approach, fell from the building.
RAF medic Dean Thomas, who was eating breakfast with his family when the incident happened, said the woman had been very lucky.
The 27-year-old told the Plymouth Herald: "It was a very big sign, with nails hanging off the end of it, so it could have been a lot worse.
"I had a look at her head, stuck on a dressing to stop the bleeding and held it there until the ambulance arrived."
