Tim Beasley, Managing Partner of Levenes Birmingham office, has secured a settlement of £5.25m for Mr DR, who suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a road accident in 2012. Mr DR was a passenger in a vehicle when the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof compressing the Claimants spine. The Claimant suffered a compression injury to the spinal cord causing permanent damage. This was an “incomplete” spinal cord injury at a high level in his spine causing problems below the level of the injury affecting hand and lower limb function. As the injury is incomplete, Mr DR has been able to regain some function below the level of the injury. However, the injury is such that Mr DR has many problems including with gripping and walking.
Prior to the final settlement of the claim, Levenes secured interim payments which enabled Mr DR to have private treatment which has enabled him to make the best possible recovery that he was able to do given the serious nature of the injury. Mr DR has been able to buy a bungalow which will be fully adapted for him. The level of the settlement means that Mr DR will be financially secure and able to pay for ongoing therapy, care and equipment.
